in which there is a puppy and there will be gutters

Today was rough- a killer headache, incipient flu, a sick kid, a sicker business partner, tech issues, slow downloads and a far- too- full plate, but it all worked out in the end. The kid was sweet, the business partner was sweeter, I managed to get most everything I needed to do done and the gutter estimate is reasonable.

Also, my work- day always ends with a lap full of Hugo.

And I get to spend my evening working with a skein of lovely color from a dear friend.

It's a hard life, right? I don't know how I stand it, either.

My work day ended with a possibly suicidal employee & the belief (expressed by the union president) that I was the only one who could provide the correct resolution. WAIT. My work day ended with the union president telling me he’d made the appropriate arrangements for the employee’s safety overnight & my understanding that he was saying I was right about my recommendations (made after consultation with two mental health specialists). If she goes through with it tonight, I’ll never get over it. I don’t think she will, though I won’t get much sleep.
Why am I writing this? Because knowing I was coming home to a lap full of Arlo, who will forgive me if the specialists’ advice wasn’t sufficient; who will forgive me if I wasn’t able to save someone who is filled with pain – someone I’ve never met; who will forgive me when I won’t forgive myself – because knowing this made it possible for me to leave the office.
I’ve come home to safety & security & on-line friends I’ve never met & to a dog who loves me whether I’m smart or right or not.
I’m glad that’s the way this day ended for you, too.
