in which I am surprised

Well, I’m really doing it.

I’ll try to write when we get to Doha, but no promises, obviously. Family/ close friends, I’ll call if I can when we land.

I’ve packed enough sock yarn for a small army, so hopefully that should get me through a 14 hour flight. (14 hours. Oh hell.) At least the booze is free.

I can’t believe this is happening. I can’t believe I’m actually doing this. I can’t believe that within one week I will be in Afghanistan. I am so shocked. I shouldn’t be, I suppose, but I am. This is real, this is now, this is happening. No one stepped up and stopped me. I think I’ve been waiting for that all along- to get tripped up. Unreal. Amazing and exciting and gutting and scary and damn.

This has got to be the craziest thing I’ve done yet.
