14. You’re still here? What gives?
From your mouth to G-d’s ears. This is the first question everyone seems to be asking me: what happened to the rapid- turnover assignment? Indeed. We’re ready, my company is ready, our team is ready. The government, however, is not so ready. While the people we’ll be working with wanted us in place in early January, it has taken the government this long to give us a hard go- date- which we got yesterday. According to the gov’t, we fly out on either the 9th or the 10th… of May. M-A-Y. "Pissed off" doesn’t begin to cover it, really, but what can we do? We can shut up and color, that’s what we can do. Of course, we’re not the only ones dealing with the government’s inability to get things running on schedule, either, so I can’t complain too much.
Update: we leave on 7 May, 2008. Tickets are purchased, bags are being packed. I’ll be doing one last Wednesday at the Ram’s Head, and one last Saturday at Spinster, and then I’m nesting until we leave.
I’m having trouble believing this is really happening.
